Paper coating

Casein has been widely used in paper manufacturing since the 80’s as an alternative to glue as a coating adhesive. Casein was used partly because of its lower price and partly because it can be rendered quite insoluble in the finished coating either by formaldehyde, or by compounds which develop formaldehyde during drying of the coating. It’s then mixed with in with water and warmed to then produce the material.
